Postcard collectors in Western Norway
Postcard collectors in Western Norway, PIV – literally Postcard collectors in the West (Vest), was founded in 1984. The aim of the club is to increase the interest for postcards and postcard history. To achieve this there are exhibitions, a members journal, “Samling om Postkortet”, and PIV hold two auctions for members each year with 568 objects in each auction. The auctions are in the Spring and Autumn. All the cards are pictured as a part of the membership magazine, which is sent to the members – as well as being published online.
The information about our auctions can be found in the menu Auksjoner where the latest auction can be found as well as the bidding status and results
We have always tried to hold a high standard of quality cards in the auctions. The Norwegian postcard market is still strong and vibrant, and we are continually achieving record turnovers at the auctions. On an average 90% of the cards are sold, and we take a low provision.
PIV hold two auctions for members each year with about 400 cards in each auction. The auctions are in the Spring and Autumn. All the cards are pictured in the A4 catalogue which is sent to members. The auctions are based on written bids from members as well as bids in the room on the actually evening.
Club meetings
The club meetings can be found under Moter. We aim to have a meeting each month with either a lecture or auction.
The club is open for anyone who is interested and the yearly subscription is 300 NOK (adjusted from Jan 1. 2025) which includes the journal.
The club has approximately 350+ members, and the members are not only from Western Norway but spread over the whole country. We also have members in Denmark, Sweden and Great Britain.
There are 10-12 members meetings each year, and they are both informal and informative. We chat about postcards, and collecting, exchange or sell cards and enjoy a cup of coffee/tea and a bite to eat. There are interesting talks at most meetings – see the list of meetings.
